Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. Turn the ignition from on to off then back to on.
    4. Press and release the Mirror Select switch to select the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror.
    5. Open the driver door to turn the approach lights on. Leave the door open.
    6. Turn the drivers turn signal on.
    7. Fold and unfold the mirrors (if equipped).
    8. Turn the rear defogger on (if equipped with heated mirrors).
    9. Operate the Mirror Adjust switch in all directions several times while monitoring the scan tool for DTCs.
      NOTE:

      After adjusting the mirror in one direction wait at least two seconds before adjusting the mirror in the opposite direction, as this will allow time for an active fault to set if present.

    10. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE (P551) DRIVER MIRROR APPROACH LIGHT DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror C1 and C2 (Component Side) harness connectors from the Door Module.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage between ground and the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit at the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror (Component Side) harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (P551) DRIVER MIRROR APPROACH LIGHT DRIVER CIRCUIT AND (P552) DRIVER MIRROR BLINDSPOT LAMP RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for continuity between the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit and the (P552) Driver Mirror Blindspot Lamp Return circuit at the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror (Component Side) connector.

      Is there continuity between the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit and the (P552) Driver Mirror Blindspot Lamp Return circuit?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit or the (P552) Driver Mirror Blindspot Lamp Return circuit for an open. If the wiring harness and connector are okay, replace the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MIRROR, OUTSIDE REARVIEW, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE (P551) DRIVER MIRROR APPROACH LIGHT DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER MIRROR DRIVER OR SIGNAL CIRCUIT 
    1. Check for continuity between the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit and each of the designated Mirror Driver and Signal circuits in the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror (Component Side) connectors.

      Is there continuity between the (P551) Driver Mirror Approach Light Driver circuit and any of the designated Mirror Driver and Signal circuits?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE MIRROR FUNCTION 
    1. Replace the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MIRROR, OUTSIDE REARVIEW, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or MIRROR, OUTSIDE REARVIEW, COVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or MIRROR, OUTSIDE REARVIEW, GLASS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. Using a scan tool, record and erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    4. Turn the ignition off then back to on.
    5. Open the driver door to turn the approach lights on.
    6. Turn the driver side turn signal on.
    7. Fold and unfold the mirrors (if equipped).
    8. Turn the rear defogger on (if equipped with heated mirrors).
    9. Operate the Mirror Adjust switch in all directions several times while monitoring the scan tool for DTCs.
      NOTE:

      After adjusting the mirror in one direction wait at least two seconds before adjusting the mirror in the opposite direction, as this will allow time for an active fault to set if present.

    10. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

  6. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Driver Door Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Driver Door Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Vehicle Scan Report, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
