Theory Of Operation

The Heated Steering Wheel (HSW) Temperature Sensor is connected to either the Left or Right Steering Wheel Switch depending on vehicle configuration. The sensor is a 5 volt Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) sensor. The resistance value of the NTC sensor decreases as the temperature of the Heated Steering Wheel element increases. The sensor data is transferred from the Steering Wheel Switch to the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) by way of the LIN bus, a serial sub-bus. The data is then transferred to the BCM and HSM by way of the CAN bus.
