Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR BUS RELATED DTCS NOTE:
Diagnose and repair all active Bus related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) including Lost Communication DTCs before diagnosing this DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
- Record the DTC Environmental Data.
Are there any communication DTCs present?
Yes
- Repair any communication DTCs as necessary.
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Comfort Seat Wheel Module (CSWM) DTC(s) and record on the repair order.
- Record the DTC Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase CSWM DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Start the engine.
- With the scan tool, read CSWM DTCs.
Is this DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL (HSW) TEMPERATURE SENSOR WIRING WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Remove the Driver Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the Steering Wheel connector to the Steering Wheel Switch.NOTE:
Depending on the vehicle configuration, the Steering Wheel Switch my be either the left or right switch.
- Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the HSW and the Steering Wheel Switch. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL (HSW) TEMPERATURE SENSOR WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Start the engine.
- Measure the voltage between the (C92) Heated Steering Wheel Signal circuit and the EVIC MUX Return circuit at the Steering Wheel Heater Sensor connector.
Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts?
Yes
- Replace the Heated Steering Wheel (HSW) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to WHEEL, HEATED STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL SWITCH
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the Steering Wheel Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, EVIC CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Reconnect the Steering Wheel Heater Sensor connectors.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase CSWM DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Start the engine.
- With the scan tool, read CSWM DTCs.
Is this DTC active?
Yes
- Replace the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, STEERING COLUMN CONTROL (SCCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
