Inner Tie Rod End: Removal

NOTE:

If removing the right side inner tie rod repeat steps 1-6 for the left inner tie rod. 

NOTE:

The bellows and clamps are not reusable and must be DISCARDED if removed. 

  1. Remove outer tie rod end. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the jam fastener from the inner tie rod.

  3. Remove clamp (1) securing bellows (2) to inner tie rod and DISCARD  .
  4. Remove clamp (3) securing bellows (2) to steering gear body and DISCARD  .
  5. Remove the bellows (2) from the inner tie rod end and DISCARD  .

  6. Install the EPS steering rack holder

    (special tool #10417, Holder, EPS Steering Rack)

    (2) on the LH inner tie rod. Using a suitable tool (1), remove the inner tie rod.

    NOTE:

    The EPS Steering Rack Holder can only be installed to the left side of the steering gear.

    CAUTION:

    If the inner tie rod cannot be removed using the specified tools, do not use a hammer or heat to loosen. Damage to the steering gear will occur. Replace the entire steering gear.

  7. Unthread and remove the inner tie rod from the rack gear.
