Removal And Installation: Fwd: Removal
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Lock the steering wheel in the centered position.
- Remove the steering shaft to steering gear pinch fastener (1), and DISCARD the pinch fastener.
Do not start to remove (or break free) pinch fastener with an impact wrench/gun.
- Remove the dash seal to dash panel fasteners (2).
- Remove both outer tie rod stud to knuckle fasteners (3).
- Using ball joint remover (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint), separate outer tie rod end (2) from knuckle.
- Remove exhaust crossunder pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front cradle. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
DO NOT
disconnect the torque sensor (grey) harness connector and make sure it is connected properly.
- Remove the heat shield (2) from the steering gear, by removing the mounting fasteners (1).
- Remove the dash seal to steering gear fasteners (1), and remove the dash seal.
- Remove the bracket fasteners (1) and remove the bracket (2).
- Remove the steering gear to sub cradle fasteners (1), and remove the steering gear (2) from the sub cradle (3).
