Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, record any power sliding door inhibitors.
    4. Erase the DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
    6. Attempt to operate the Left Power Sliding Door
    7. With the scan tool, read the PSDML DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE LEFT POWER SLIDING DOOR 
    1. Examine the Left Power Sliding Door for proper alignment, worn or binding rollers and hinges, loose/damaged weatherstrip, and track assembly for wear or anything that would cause an obstruction to proper operation.
    2. Manually open and close the Power Sliding Door on a known good vehicle and notice the effort needed to open and close.
    3. Compare the effort needed to open and close the door on the disabled vehicle.
    4. Especially notice the effort needed to unlatch and close the Left Power Sliding Door.

      Does it take more effort to operate the door than it should?

      Yes 

      • Refer to Service information for the related symptom(s).
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE LEFT DOOR POSITION SENSOR 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT 
    NOTE:

    At this time it will be necessary to remove the Left Power Sliding Door Drive Unit Assembly from the vehicle.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the Left Power Sliding Door Drive Unit Assembly from the vehicle. See REMOVAL for removal procedure.
    3. Set the drive unit on the vehicle floor.
    4. Remove the Left Power Sliding Door Module from the track.
    5. Re-connect the Left Power Sliding Door Module to the track harness connector.
    6. Turn the ignition on.
    7. With the scan tool, monitor the Left Power Sliding Door Position Sensor 1 status.
    8. Connect a jumper wire to the Left Power Sliding Door Position Sensor 1 Signal terminal at the Left Power Sliding Door Drive Unit connector.
    9. Momentarily touch and release the other side of the jumper to the Left Power Sliding Door Position Sensor Return terminal at the Left Power Sliding Door Drive Unit connector several times and observe the Position Sensor 1 status on the scan tool.

      Does the state of the position sensor change each time the jumper is connected and then released?

      No 

      • Go To  4

      Yes 

      • Replace the Left Power Sliding Door Drive Unit in accordance with service information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Left Power Sliding Door Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Left Power Sliding Door Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Vehicle Scan Report, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read PSDML DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
