Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to HUB AND BEARING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Remove the outer tie rod nut (3) at the steering knuckle.
  5. Using special tool (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint), separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.

  6. Remove and DISCARD  the lower ball joint stud pinch bolt (2).
  7. Using a pry bar, separate the lower control arm from the steering knuckle.

  8. Remove the lower strut assembly mounting bolts (1).
    NOTE:

    Do not allow the halfshaft to hang by the inner C/V joint; it must be supported to keep the joint from separating during this operation.

  9. Remove the steering knuckle from the strut assembly.
