The Electric Parking Brake (EPB) switch (2) is located in the lower right corner of the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) (1).
The switch communicates with the EPB module through hardwired circuits. The switch housing also includes an indicator to let the driver know when the EPB is applied. If the vehicle is turned OFF, the indicator will extinguish after 10 seconds.
If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
