Theory Of Operation

The Fold Stow System is made up of the Fold Stow Module (FSM), 3rd Row Stow Motors, 3rd Row Seat Recliner Motors, 3rd Row Seat Headrest Motors, Rear Power Folding Seat Latches, D-Pillar Power Folding Seat Switch, 3rd Row Seat Recliner Switches, and 3rd Row Seat Latch Switches. The FSM controls and monitors the function of the third row seats in the Fold, Stow, and Normal positions and the seat backrest angle in either the forward or rearward direction. The FSM receives Fused B+ directly from the Power Distribution Center (PDC). The FSM is also equipped with an obstacle detection system to allow for safe operation.

The D-Pillar Power Folding Seat Switch is a Multiplex (MUX) switch which uses a set resistance value for each seat position. These resistance values correspond to different voltages which are monitored by the FSM over separate circuits. Any change in voltage will cause the FSM to request a change in seat position. This switch contains multiple switches that send inputs to the FSM to control the Fold, Stow, Normal functions of the 3rd row seat and a seat selector switch that allows the seats to be actuated individually or together.

The 3rd Row Seat Recliner Switches are Multiplex (MUX) switches that receive power from a fused relay ignition output in the PDC. Each switch (left, right) sends inputs to the FSM to set the backrest angle of its corresponding seat in either the forward or rearward direction.
