Description And Operation: Operation
Each time the power folding mirror switch is depressed, both outside rear view mirrors are toggled from folded inward to unfolded, or from unfolded to folded inward. This functionality allows the overall width of the vehicle to be narrowed considerably from the driver's seated position and can be very helpful when navigating very narrow passageways or where parking space is at an absolute minimum.
The power folding mirror switch is a low current switch that provides electronic switch status messages to the front door control module on the driver side front door over a Local Interface Network (LIN) data bus. In response to that input, the door control module provides the proper voltage and ground polarity outputs to the folding mirror motor integral to the driver side outside rear view mirror to fold or unfold the mirror head. In order to change the mirror direction, the door control module reverses the voltage and ground polarity outputs to the mirror motor.
The driver side front door control module also relays the power folding mirror switch status message to the passenger side front door control module over the Controller Area Network (CAN) Interior High Speed (IHS) data bus network. In response to that input, the front door control module on the passenger side front door provides the proper voltage and ground polarity outputs to the folding mirror motor integral to the passenger side outside rear view mirror to fold or unfold the mirror head. Each front door control module contains the power mirror control logic for the mirror on its respective door.
The power fold away mirror system consists of the following components: mirror switch, side view mirror, relay, wires and fuse. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
