Description And Operation: Description
The interior lighting system for this vehicle includes both incandescent and Light Emitting Diode (LED) unit lighting on several separate circuits. The lamps in the interior lighting system include:
- Center Floor Console Lamp - A removable center floor console is available with an LED lamp unit to assist visibility of the console storage compartment at night. This lamp is controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit.
- Courtesy Footwell Lamps - Some vehicles are equipped with courtesy footwall lamp lighting that illuminate the driver floor area when the doors are opened or the interior courtesy lamps are turned ON. This lamp is located in the lower steering column cover panel.
- Courtesy Seat Lamp - A courtesy LED lamp is located beneath the front seat on the backside allowing for illumination for second row seating floor area. This lamp illuminates when the doors are open or when the interior courtesy lamps are turned ON. This lamp is controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit.
- Cup Holder Lamp (Accent) - The cup holders in the center floor console include a standard equipment LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminates whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Cup Holder Lamp (Overhead) - The cup holders in the center floor console include a standard equipment LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminates whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Door Entry and Exit Lamps - Door entry and exit lamps on some models include an incandescent lamp unit on the underside of each door trim panel that illuminate the ground outside the opened doors to assist visibility at night. These lamps are controlled by the courtesy lamps circuit and illuminate whenever the interior courtesy lamps are turned ON
- Door Inside Handle Lamps - Door inside latch release handle pockets on models with the ambient lighting package include an LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. These lamps are controlled by both the ambient lamps dimmer circuit and the courtesy lamps circuit. These lamps are illuminated whenever the ambient lighting or the courtesy lighting is turned ON, and are dimmable only when the ambient lighting is turned ON while the exterior lighting is also turned ON.
- Front Dome Lamps - Front seat driver side and passenger side incandescent dome lamps are located in the base overhead console. Front seat driver side and passenger side aimable LED dome lamps are located in the premium overhead console. Both the incandescent and LED dome lamps are controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit and by independent lens-actuated switches.
- Front Door Map Pocket Lamps - Front door trim panel map pockets on some models include an LED lamp unit to assist visibility at night. These lamps are controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminate whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Front Map/Reading Lamps - The front seat driver side and passenger side dome lamps in the overhead console also serve as the map/reading lamps. The LED unit map/reading lamps are controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit and by independent lens-actuated switches in the overhead console.
- Glove Box Lamp - A standard glove box lamp with an integral plunger-actuated switch is located at the upper outboard corner of the instrument panel lower glove box opening and illuminates whenever the glove box door is opened.
- Liftgate Lamp - An LED liftgate lamp is located in the liftgate trim panel and is activated automatically whenever the liftgate is opened to illuminate the rear cargo area of the vehicle.
- Overhead Lamps - Five available overhead courtesy lamp modules located in the headliner are controlled by a thumbwheel dimmer switch located in the dimmer module. These lamps are arranged above each row of seating and can be used as dome/reading lamps.
- Vanity Lamps - An optional single intensity, incandescent vanity lamp is located on each side of a covered mirror on both the right and left sun visors, and is controlled by an integral vanity mirror cover-actuated switch.
Most controls on the instrument panel and elsewhere in the interior of the vehicle are illuminated by the panel lamps dimmer circuit for night visibility. All have miniature incandescent bulbs, Light-Emitting Diode (LED) units or a combination of the two lighting types that are soldered to internal circuit boards and are not serviceable.
Other components of the interior lighting system for this vehicle include:
- Dimmer Module - On Left-Hand Drive (LHD) models, the panel lamps dimmer and interior lighting control switch thumbwheel is integral to the dimmer module which is located on the instrument panel, adjacent to the headlamp switch. A PARADE position of the thumbwheel illuminates all display units at full brightness for visibility when driving in daylight with the exterior lighting turned ON. There are also detent positions to turn ON all interior courtesy lighting, and a DEFEAT position that overrides door ajar switch control of interior lighting.
- Door Ajar Switches - A door ajar switch is integral to the door latch mechanism of each door and the liftgate.
- Headlamp Switch - A headlamp switch is located on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering column. The panel lamps dimmer and interior lighting control switches are integral to the dimmer module.
- Instrument Cluster - The Instrument Cluster (IC) is located in the instrument panel above the steering column opening, directly in front of the driver.
- Liftgate Ajar Switch - A liftgate ajar switch is integral to the latch mechanism of the liftgate.
- Body Control Module - The Body Control Module (BCM) is located behind the drivers kick panel.
Hard wired circuitry connects the interior lighting system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the interior lighting components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, further details on wire harness routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
