Description And Operation: Description
This vehicle has a panel dimmer switch (1) that is located within the headlamp switch housing on the instrument panel steering column opening cover. The standard dimmer module features a single thumbwheel for panel lamps dimming and interior lighting control. There is also an optional switch with a second thumbwheel (2). The second thumbwheel is used for ambient lighting control in vehicles with the ambient lighting option.
The headlamp switch housing is snapped into place within the mounting hole of the steering column opening and held in place by two tension push down to release springs built into the headlamp switch housing itself. The back of the switch housing has an integral connector receptacle containing terminal pins that connect the module to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the instrument panel wire harness. Panel dimmer controlled Light Emitting Diode (LED) units soldered to the circuit board within the module provide back lighting for visibility at night, but are not serviceable.
The switch cannot be repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, it must be replaced. Refer to SWITCH, HEADLAMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
