Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    NOTE:

    Make sure the Torque Sensor (Grey) harness connector is connected properly before continuing with this procedure.

    1. Park the vehicle on level ground.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on vehicle work order.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Start the engine.
    6. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop.
    7. With the scan tool, read the EPS DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Appropriate Diagnostic Information.

      No 

      • Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time.
  2. CHECK FOR POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) OR CHARGING RELATED DTCS 
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

      Are there any PCM Charging or voltage related DTCs active or pending?

      Yes 

      • Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedures before continuing with this test. Refer to DTC INDEX .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (A10) FUSED (B+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the EPS Module C1 harness connector.
      NOTE:

      Make sure the Torque Sensor (Grey) harness connector is connected properly.

    3. Turn the ignition on.
      NOTE:

      Wiggle test the wiring harness and electrical connectors while testing the circuit.

      NOTE:

      The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

    4. With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (A10) Fused B+ circuit at the EPS C1 harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (A10) Fused (B+) circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPS VERIFICATION TEST  .
  4. CHECK THE (Z907) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
      NOTE:

      Make sure the Torque Sensor (Grey) harness connector is connected properly.

      NOTE:

      Wiggle test the wiring harness and electrical connectors while testing the circuit.

    2. With a test light connected to B+ check (Z907) Ground circuit at the EPS Module C1 harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the (Z907) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the EPS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EPS VERIFICATION TEST  .
  5. CHECK THE EPS MODULE RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    NOTE:

    Do not disconnect the Torque Sensor (Grey) harness connector and make sure it is connected properly.

    1. Disconnect the EPS Module C1 and C2 harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Connect the EPS Module harness connectors. Be certain that the harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read EPS Module DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
