Diagnosis And Testing - Horn

Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, details of wire harness routing and retention, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds. For proper wire repair, and connector repair procedures. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE . and. Refer to REMOVAL . Refer to INSTALLATION .

  1. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the horn. Check for continuity between the horn ground circuit cavity of the harness connector and a good ground. There should be continuity. If OK, go to Step 2  below. If not OK, repair the open ground circuit to ground as required.
  2. Check for battery voltage at the horn input circuit cavity of the harness connector. There should be zero volts. If OK, go to Step 3  below. If not OK, repair the cause for voltage on the horn output circuit as required.
  3. Press the horn switch. There should now be battery voltage at the horn input circuit cavity of the harness connector for the horn. If OK, replace the ineffective horn. If not OK, continue with diagnosis of the horn switch and circuits, the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) and circuits, the Body Control Module (BCM) and the control circuit to the horn relay in the PDC, and the horn relay as required.
