Theory Of Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the normally open Liftgate Release Switch, through the Decklid/Liftgate Release Signal circuit. A ground is provided to the Liftgate Release Switch through the wiring harness, to the body sheet metal.

When the Liftgate Release Switch is depressed, the switch closes and a ground signal is sent to the BCM. When the BCM receives this ground signal, the BCM provides a voltage output, through the Decklid/Liftgate Release Driver circuit, to the Liftgate Release Motor, integral to the Liftgate Latch, which activates and releases the Liftgate. A ground is provided to the Liftgate Latch through the wiring harness, to the body sheet metal.
