Theory Of Operation
The purpose of this diagnostic is to verify that the vehicle is making enough oil pressure to operate the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) System. Once this diagnostic is enabled, engine oil pressure will be checked. If it is determined that there is not enough oil pressure to operate the VVT system, VVT will be disabled. For the VVT to system to operate, there must be a minimum oil pressure of 213.7 - 241kPa (31 - 35psi). The minimum threshold is determined by a model using engine speed and oil temperature. If this DTC is present the engine is most likely not making enough oil pressure to support proper VVT operation. If the engine is able to create proper oil pressure the sensor may be out of range.
