Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE VIDEO CABLE CONNECTION AT THE VIDEO ROUTING MODULE (VRM) 
    1. Inspect the video cable connection at the VRM.

      Is the video cable connection secure and undamaged?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the video cable connection as needed and check video operation.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE VIDEO CABLE CONNECTIONS AT THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK MEDIA PORT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C2 harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
    3. Inspect the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C1 harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.

      Are the video cable connections secure and undamaged?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the video cable connections as needed and check video operation.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE VIDEO CABLE CONNECTION AT ALL IN-LINE HARNESS CONNECTORS 
    1. Using the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM as a guide, locate and inspect all in-line video cable harness connectors between the Right Front Seat Back Media Port and the VRM.

      Are all video cable connections secure and undamaged?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the video cable connections as needed and check video operation.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE FUSED B+ AND IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUITS AT THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK MEDIA PORT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C1 harness connector.
    3. With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (A935) Fused B+ and (A984) Ignition Switch Output circuits at the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C1 harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery

      Does the test light illuminate brightly for both circuits?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

      • Repair the circuit(s) for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT AT THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK MEDIA PORT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z916) Ground circuit at the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C1 harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Repair the circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CONNECT TEST TOOL CABLE KIT BETWEEN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK MEDIA PORT AND THE VRM - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Right Front Seat Back Media Port C2 harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the VRM C3 harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The Y-Cable adapter (9977-6-12-4Y) included with the test cable kit (9977-6-12) must be used to split the signal from the VRM to the display screen and USB media hub. IF, the Y-Cable adapter is not used the display screen will flash momentarily and then go dark with a single red light on.

    4. Connect Special Test Cable (special tool #9977-6-12, Adapter, HSD-LVDS Mini B USB)between the Right Front Seat Back Video Screen Module C2 harness connector and the VRM C3 harness connector.
    5. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    6. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    9. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  8

      No 

      • Replace the (J102) Video Screen Cable in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  8. REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK MEDIA PORT - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. Replace the Right Front Seat Back Media Port in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Reconnect all related harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

      • Replacing the Right Front Seat Back Media Port corrected the condition.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  9. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all VRM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all VRM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10 seconds.
    10. Turn the ignition on.
    11. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    12. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Repairing the wiring or connectors corrected the condition.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
