Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    It is recommended that a battery charger be connected and set on low during this test.

    NOTE:

    Be sure the thumbwheels on the Dimmer Module are turned fully on during this test.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. Turn the ignition on to off three times and leave in the Lock position.
    4. Turn the park lamps on.
    5. Wait one minute.
    6. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE LAMP FOR A SHORT 
    1. With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Remove the inner door panel trim in accordance with the Service Information.
    4. Make sure the Driver Door Handle Lamp connector is disconnected.
    5. Re-connect the Driver Door Map Pocket Lamp connector.
    6. Turn the park lamps on.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Wait one minute.
    9. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Replace the Driver Door Handle Lamp Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR MAP POCKET LAMP FOR A SHORT 
    1. With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Disconnect the Driver Door Map Pocket Lamp connector.
    4. Be sure the park lamps are still on.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Wait one minute.
    7. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Replace the Driver Door Map Pocket Lamp Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE (M33) DOOR AMBIENT LAMP FEED DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Driver Door Module C5 harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between Ground and the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit at the DDM C5 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between Ground and the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit for as short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE (M33) DOOR AMBIENT LAMP FEED DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (M34) DOOR LIGHTING RETURN DRIVER CIRCUIT 
    1. Check for continuity between the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit and the (M34) Door Lighting Return Driver circuit at the DDM C5 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit and the (M34) Door Lighting Return Driver circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (M33) Door Ambient Lamp Feed Driver circuit for a short to the (M34) Door Lighting Return Driver circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Driver Door Module harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Driver Door Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Vehicle Scan Report, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read DDM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
