B-Clutch Measurement
After the B-clutch is cleaned and assembled the end play must be measured to verify that the correct select reaction plate has been installed.
NOTE:
The first and last friction discs (2) have friction material only on one side. They are not interchangeable with the double sided friction discs (5).
NOTE:
Diesel and V-6 gas engine clutch pack shown in illustration below, 4 cylinder gas engines will have one less double sided friction disc (5) and steel plate (3).
- Position the B-clutch on an arbor press with the reaction plate (1) facing upward.
- Using tool (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force) (1), and (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) (2) (with pressure scale removed) and l (special tool #10428, Adapter, Pressing Tool) (3), compress the B-clutch (4) to collapse the wave plate to 3.2 kg/cm2 (45 psi) (1).
- Using a suitable feeler gauge (5), measure the gap between the B-clutch piston (6) and the reaction plate (7). Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- If the measurement is not within specification, replace the reaction plate (7) with the correct plate.
