Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
If a 5-Volt reference DTC is present, repair that DTC before proceeding with this test.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- FUEL SYSTEM INSPECTION
- Visually inspect the fuel system for leaks or restrictions.
Were any fuel system issues found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repairs.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- Visually inspect the fuel system for leaks or restrictions.
- CHECK THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE
- Using a lab scope, back probe the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal (FRPS) circuit.
- While observing the lab scope reading, start the engine.
Does the FRPS Signal voltage spike above, then below the set point before settling at the set point as indicated in the monitoring conditions?
Yes
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION test procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE FUEL PUMP OPERATION
- Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM test procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM (HARD START)

Is the Fuel Pump Assembly operating to specifications?
Yes
- Replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Fuel Pump Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM test procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM (HARD START)
