Removal And Installation: Right: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.

  2. Remove the bolts (1) and position the pressurized coolant bottle aside.
  3. Mark the intake variable valve timing solenoid and the exhaust variable valve timing solenoid with a paint pen or equivalent so that they may be reinstalled in their original locations.

    NOTE:

    Mark the variable valve timing solenoid connectors with a paint pen or equivalent so that they may be reinstalled in their original locations.

    NOTE:

    The intake and exhaust solenoids are not interchangeable.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the intake variable valve timing solenoid.
  5. Carefully detach the wiring harness retainer (2) from the intake variable timing solenoid.
  6. Remove the intake variable valve timing solenoid mounting bolts (1).
  7. Pull the intake variable valve timing solenoid from the cylinder head cover.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the exhaust variable valve timing solenoid.
  9. Remove the variable valve timing solenoid mounting bolts (1).
  10. Pull the exhaust variable valve timing solenoid from the cylinder head cover.

  11. The seal (1) can be reused if not damaged.
