Removal And Installation: Removal

NOTE:

If the Oil Filter Adapter is being removed for an Oil Leak Condition, Oil Dye (P/N - CH5010042AC) MUST be used first do determine the location of the oil leak. (If oil dye has not been used, the repair will not be validated)

  1. Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY, GAS, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, INTAKE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor wire harness connectors (1).

  5. Remove the heater hose (1) from the oil filter housing.

  6. Remove five bolts (1) and remove the oil filter housing.
    NOTE:

    If there is an oil leak (identified by the use of Oil Dye - CH5010042AC) coming from between the Oil Filter Adapter (OFA) and the valley deck mating surfaces, replace only the four gaskets and the drain tube O-ring as shown in illustration here. The O-ring and four gasket set is #68191356AA.

  7. Remove and discard the oil filter housing seals (1-5).

  8. If there is a need to replace the oil pressure sensor (1), use a deep well socket of the correct size (1-1/16" or 27mm). Use extreme care to keep the socket in line with the sensor to prevent the sensor insert from turning in the housing creating a potential leak.
