Standard Procedure - Sunshade Re-TENSIONING

NOTE:

This procedure in only necessary in the event that the sunshade spring tension has been unwound. If the spring tension is not locked as defined in the sunshade removal/install procedure, the spring will unwind when the sunshade assembly is removed from the sunroof frame and the below procedure must be followed to rewind it. Service sunshade assemblies come with the sunshade spring properly wound and locked, it is not necessary to use this procedure prior to installing a new service sunshade assembly.

  1. Install the sunshade pin into vise and secure. Make sure the steel shaft is pushed-in and completely unwound.
  2. Rotate the sunshade clockwise 13 complete rotations.
  3. Lock the sunshade spring by gently pulling sunshade assembly away from vise and rotating the sunshade clockwise until the steel shaft at end of sunshade assembly extends out of the sunshade tube to the locked position. Sunshade should not need to be rotated more than 180 degrees before the lock engages (steel shaft extends out).
  4. Remove it from vise. If the sunshade spring was not properly locked the spring will completely unwind upon removal from the vise and the complete procedure will need to be repeated.
    NOTE:

While installing the sunshade into the sunroof assembly, install pin side first, then unlock the sunshade and make sure to hold it so it doesn't lose tension and install the other side (white plastic tip). Tension should be present when the sunshade shade beam is installed in the guide.
