Description And Operation: Operation
When the brake pedal is depressed, the brake pedal position sensor signals the brake pedal position to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) module. The ESC module then sends a message to the Body Control Module (BCM) to illuminate the brake lights.
The brake pedal position sensor:
- Requires no initial sensor adjustment.
- Is calibrated by the ESC module during its static initialization at final electrical test.
- Needs to be recalibrated if the ESC module is replaced or if the pedal is replaced.
The hard wired circuits between the brake pedal position sensor and the ESC may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the brake pedal position sensor or the electronic controls and communication that provide some features related to brake pedal position sensor operation. The most reliable, efficient and accurate means to diagnose the brake pedal position sensor or the electronic controls and communication related to sensor operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
