Diagnostic Test

  1. DETERMINE THE CAMERA SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE 
    1. Review the sales codes of the vehicle.
      CAMERA SYSTEM SALES CODE DESCRIPTION
      Rearview Camera (RVC) XAC PARKVIEW REAR BACK-UP CAMERA
      Surround View Camera (SVC) XAK 360 SURROUND VIEW CAMERA SYSTEM

      Which sales code does the vehicle have?

      RVC 

      • Go To  2

      SVC 

      • Go To  7
  2. VERIFY BUSSED REVERSE GEAR STATUS IN THE RADIO 
    1. With the scan tool, communicate with the radio and check the Reverse gear message to the Radio.

      Does the Radio see a Reverse gear input?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Diagnose any problems with the Radio and Transmission inputs.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE FUSED RUN RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Apply the parking brake.
    3. Disconnect the License Plate Lamp/Rear Camera Assembly harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (F923) circuit at the Rear Camera connector.
      NOTE:

      The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. (

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (F923) circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z917) Ground circuit at the Rear Camera harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the (Z917) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (X970) CAMERA SIGNAL, THE (X971) RETURN, AND THE (X972) SHIELD CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the Radio harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (X970) (X971) and (X972) circuits between the Rear Camera harness connector and Radio harness connectors.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms on the (X970) (X971) or (X972) circuits?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

  6. CHECK THE (X970) CAMERA SIGNAL, THE (X971) RETURN, AND THE (X972) SHIELD CIRCUITS SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground between ground and the (X970) (X971) and (X972) circuits at the Radio harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms on the (X970) (X971) or (X972) circuits?

      Yes 

      • Repair the appropriate circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

  7. VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE CVPM 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Verify the CVPM is active on the bus.

      Is the CVPM active on the bus?

      Yes 

      • Go To  8

      No 

  8. CHECK THE SVC SYSTEM 
    1. Using the display screen, select the Surround Camera in the Controls menu.
    2. Check the operation of all four camera views using the soft touch screen buttons.

      Are all four cameras inoperative?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

      • Go To  11
  9. CHECK THE (X970) CAMERA SIGNAL, THE (X971) RETURN, AND THE (X972) SHIELD CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Radio harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the Central Vision Process Module (CVPM) C1 harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance of the (X970) (X971) and (X972) circuits between the Rear Camera harness connector and Radio harness connectors.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms on the (X970) (X971) or (X972) circuits?

      Yes 

      • Go To  10

      No 

  10. CHECK THE (X970) CAMERA SIGNAL, THE (X971) RETURN, AND THE (X972) SHIELD CIRCUITS SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground between ground and the (X970) (X971) and (X972) circuits at the Radio harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms on the (X970) (X971) or (X972) circuits?

      Yes 

      • Repair the appropriate circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  17
  11. DETERMINE THE CAMERA THAT IS INOPERATIVE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Using the display screen, select the Surround Camera in the Controls menu.
    3. Check the operation of all four camera views using the soft touch screen buttons.

      Which camera is inoperative?

      Front View Camera 

      • Go To  12

      Left Side Camera 

      • Go To  13

      Right Side Camera 

      • Go To  14

      Rear View Camera 

      • Go To  15
  12. CHECK THE (J222) CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Front View Camera.
    3. Disconnect the Central Vision Process Module (CVPM) C2 harness connector.
    4. Connect test tool cable kit 9977-6-8 to the CVPM and Camera.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Check the operation of the camera on the display screen.

      Did operation of the camera return to the display screen?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  16
  13. CHECK THE (J225) CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Left View Camera.
    3. Disconnect the Central Vision Process Module (CVPM) C3 harness connector.
    4. Connect test tool cable kit 9977-6-8 to the CVPM and Camera.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Check the operation of the camera on the display screen.

      Did operation of the camera return to the display screen?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  16
  14. CHECK THE (J224) CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Right View Camera.
    3. Disconnect the Central Vision Process Module (CVPM) C5 harness connector.
    4. Connect test tool cable kit 9977-6-8 to the CVPM and Camera.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Check the operation of the camera on the display screen.

      Did operation of the camera return to the display screen?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  16
  15. CHECK THE (J220) CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Rear View Camera.
    3. Disconnect the Central Vision Process Module (CVPM) C4 harness connector.
    4. Connect test tool cable kit 9977-6-8 to the CVPM and Camera.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Check the operation of the camera on the display screen.

      Did operation of the camera return to the display screen?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  16
  16. CHECK THE CAMERA 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the camera from the 9977-6-8 test tool cable kit
    3. Connect a known good camera.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Check the operation of the camera on the display screen.

      Did operation of the camera return to the display screen?

      Yes 

      No 

  17. CHECK THE CVPM RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect all CVPM harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Presence of foreign conductive materials on connector pins and terminals.
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    6. Reconnect all CVPM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. Turn the ignition on.
    10. Using the display screen, select the Surround Camera in the Controls menu.
    11. Check the operation of all four camera views using the soft touch screen buttons.

      Are all four cameras inoperative?

      Yes 

      • Go To  18

      No 

  18. REPLACE THE CVPM 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Replace the Central Vision Processing Module (CVPM) in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, CENTRAL VISION PROCESSING (CVPM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using the display screen, select the Surround Camera in the Controls menu.
    5. Check the operation of all four camera views using the soft touch screen buttons.

      Are all four cameras inoperative?

      Yes 

      • Go To  19.

      No 

  19. CHECK RADIO RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Presence of foreign conductive materials on connector pins and terminals.
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.

    7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. Turn the ignition on.
    10. Using the display screen, select the Surround Camera in the Controls menu.
    11. Check the operation of all four camera views using the soft touch screen buttons.

      Are all four cameras inoperative?

      Yes 

      No
