PINPOINT TEST H : The Intelligent Access (IA) Feature Is Inoperative From A Front Door

NOTE: The Intelligent Access (IA) feature is a programmable parameter and can be enabled/disabled with a scan tool. If the feature is disabled, the Intelligent Access (IA) feature to enter the vehicle and passive starting will be inoperative. To start the vehicle, the Intelligent Access (IA) key has to be placed in the backup slot.

  1. H1 CHECK THE RKE OPERATION

    • Press the unlock button on an Intelligent Access (IA) key.

    Does the driver door unlock? 

    Yes  GO to  H2.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test J .
  2. H2 CHECK THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION

    • Lock and unlock the doors using a door lock control switch.

    Do the doors lock and unlock? 

    Yes  GO to  H3.
    No  IDENTIFY the correct symptom and REFER to the Symptom Chart: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems - Electrical .
  3. H3 CHECK THE IA KEY

    • Place the Intelligent Access (IA) key on the center console and start the engine.

    Does the engine start? 

    Yes  GO to  H4.
    No  DIAGNOSE the engine does not start. REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - With Intelligent Access (IA) .
  4. H4 CHECK THE IA LOCK AND UNLOCK CAPACITIVE SENSOR PIDs

    • Using a scan tool, view RFA module PIDs.
    • Touch both the lock and unlock sensors on the suspect exterior door handle while monitoring the RFA module PIDs LF_HNDL_LK, LF_HNDL_UNLK, RF_HNDL_LK, and RF_HNDL_UNLK.

    Do the PIDs indicate that the sensors are being touched? 

    Yes  GO to  H12.
    No  GO to  H5.
  5. H5 CHECK THE RFA MODULE DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B1381:11 or B1382:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  H6.
    No  GO to  H8.
  6. H6 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: LH Front Exterior Door Handle (DTC B1381:11).
    • Disconnect: RH Front Exterior Door Handle (DTC B1382:11).
    • Using a scan tool, clear the RFA module DTCs.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B1381:11 or B1382:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  H7.
    No  INSTALL a new exterior door handle for the handle in question. REFER to Exterior Door Handle .
  7. H7 CHECK THE LOCK AND UNLOCK CAPACITIVE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H16.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  8. H8 CHECK THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE

    • Disconnect: Suspect Front Exterior Door Handle.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B1381:11 or B1382:11 present with the jumper wire connected? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new exterior door handle for the handle in question. REFER to Exterior Door Handle .
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  H9.
  9. H9 CHECK THE LOCK AND UNLOCK CAPACITIVE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit.
    No  GO to  H10.
  10. H10 CHECK THE LOCK AND UNLOCK CAPACITIVE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H11.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  11. H11 CHECK THE LOCK AND UNLOCK CAPACITIVE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H16.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  12. H12 CHECK THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA

    • Disconnect: Suspect Front Exterior Door Handle.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 1 and 10 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H13.
    No  INSTALL a new exterior door handle for the handle in question. REFER to Exterior Door Handle .
  13. H13 CHECK THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153A.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit.
    No  GO to  H14.
  14. H14 CHECK THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H15.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  15. H15 CHECK THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H16.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  16. H16 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect all RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
