Removal And Installation: Removal
- Position the transmission in neutral.
- Raise the and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the circlip (2) from the groove in the rear output shaft (1).
- Remove the O-ring seal (1) from the groove in the rear output shaft (2).NOTE:
It may be necessary to punch a hole in the dust deflector to enable removal.
- Using suitable prying tools, pry the dust deflector (1) from the rear output shaft (2).
- Place a suitable drain pan under the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) output shaft to catch fluid that may spill from PTU when the seal is removed.
- Using tool
(special tool #9082A, Remover, Bearing)
(2), remove the seal (1) from the PTU housing.
NOTE:It may be necessary to squeeze the spring fingers on tool (special tool #9082A, Remover, Bearing) with suitable pliers to lock the jaws into the shoulder on the lip seal.
- Clean and inspect the sealing surface and the seal bore. If any damage is present, replace the PTU.
