Removal And Installation: Removal

NOTE:

Before proceeding. Refer to CAUTION . Refer to WARNING .

NOTE:

Removal process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

NOTE:

To remove the vehicle from Service Mode, press the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch while also depressing the brake pedal.

For information on Service Mode and normal operating conditions. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE (EPBM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

The electronic parking brake actuator (EPB) must be retracted prior to removing the brake caliper assembly. This can be done in two ways:

CAUTION:

Do not manually retract the Electric Park Brake (EPB) caliper piston or damage may occur.

CAUTION:

If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.

  1. Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress the brake pedal past its first 25 mm (1 inch) of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir when the lines are opened.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the EPB actuator. Refer to ACTUATOR, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
